My Dad, the race car driver!

Our family recently cheered on my Dad as he raced around the track at 140mph!! No, he doesn't have a new job, but he did really get to drive a race car. It was the Nascar Experience at Nashville Superspeedway. I think he had a blast, but we all had fun watching him too!

i can finally walk/run again!

It's been a month since I was able to walk/run. Obviously I've been walking, but it was with a pronounced limp, and that was only out of necessity. Yesterday I was finally feeling like walking/running again! I only did three laps, and I maybe ran one, but it felt so good! And I didn't let the fact that my bandaid was completely stuck to my (slowly healing) wound stop me. Or the fact that it was incredibly hot. I consider it a success!

5k- week three

Ok people, it's week three! Here are the results...

5k 05-02-11
41 minutes
i ran 4 laps out of 5

My new motto is 'no excuses', because I'm usually full of them! Today, I was trying to get my run in because I probably won't have another chance this week. I'm having a minor procedure done on my foot in the morning, and I'm not sure when I'll feel like running again. It looked like it was going to rain today, so I hurried to beat it, but it never materialized. I also forgot my armband and headphones, but thankfully I found some headphones in the van. It doesn't really bother me to have to carry my phone, so that wasn't an issue. It felt great to get it done! I even had enough energy at the end to run faster for the last 30 seconds or so. It's my version of sprinting, because you'll never see me actually sprinting!!

5k- week two

5k 04-28-11
44 minutes
ran at least 2.5 out of 5 laps

Yay!! I did it! Two whole weeks in a row. :) I'm looking at each week as an accomplishment, no matter how slow I am. I did improve this week, by 3 minutes. I wasn't sure if I was going to find the time this week, and I couldn't stand the thought of missing already! It felt good, especially after being stuck in the house all day yesterday because of bad weather. I think I could have run even more of it, but I had a slight wardrobe malfunction that required me to pull my pants up every few step! I was determined to not make excuses ('cause i'm really good at that) or let anything keep me from running today.

Robin's nest

About a month ago, we noticed a nest in one of our trees out back. It's right outside our back door, so we were able to watch the mommy and daddy robin build it. We all got excited about it, because we had a nest in a different tree a couple of years ago that we watched until the babies left the nest. I was hoping to do that again, so we were keeping an eye on it. We were able to snap a picture when the nest had just one egg, but there might have been more after that one. I watched as the mommy sat in her nest, but then one day I noticed that she was gone for the whole day. I got worried and did some research, but I had a bad feeling about it from the get go. I had Keith check it again a few days ago, and it's now empty. Sigh. I'm so bummed. The kids were really disappointed too, especially Chloe. I read that bluejays and crows are egg stealers, and I recalled seeing a couple of crows in the back yard just a day or two before. Stupid crows.
